Today's photo comes courtesy of shutterchance member Andy.

Cambodia is a beautiful country, a country which has given me some of the many photos I have posted on the website.

Althought a beautiful country, Cambodia has suffered some of the most terrifying atrocities in recent history. For 3 decades the country was torn apart by war and in the 1970's, a  savage civil war...  The Pol Pot Regime.

It was Pol Pot and his Khmer Rouge army that set up the much documented "Killing Fields" and the "S-21 Camp".  The horrors that went on there still echo around these ruins and museums...

Although the Khmer Rouge are no longer in power, their evil presence is still ever present in Cambodia in the form of MINES.

During my short time in Cambodia I visited the "Mine Museum" about 4kms from the ruins of Angkor Wat.  I was only there for a few hours, the impact it had on me was quite profound and lasting.  It is only now that I am able to give something back to a country I took so much joy in traveling around For the next few days I will be featuring my photos from the meseum and surrounding areas in a effort to bring more attention to a problem which not only affects Cambodia but many other countries around the world ( Afgahnistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Mozambique, and Vietnam to name but a few).

Through Shutterchance i\'m now able to give a little back, I hope you will help me in visiting these websites: -

http://www.landmines.org.uk/  There are links on this website giving information about landmines, efforts to remove them and how you can help by "adopting a mine field" It only costs about £1 to clear a square metre of minefield. So as little as £10 can be the difference between a family being able to cultivate a garden to feed themselves, or becoming yet another victim or casulty of UXO's (UneXploded Ordnance i.e. Mines)...

"Every 30 minutes, of everyday, someone finds a landmine by accident and either loses their life, or suffers horrific injuries."

http://www.redcross.org.kh/services/lma.htm  further information on the ongoing struggle to de-mine the worlds affected areas.
